Field notes from an early expedition going poorly in a very traditional way.

Angband Dispatch

Morwe is a kobold rogue on the first dungeon level, already discovering that confidence and preparation are separate resources. The expedition has produced one dead mushroom patch, a little experience, and a much worse local reputation. This is not yet a legend. It is barely a cautionary pamphlet.

Current situation:

  • Character: Morwe the Kobold Rogue

  • Depth: 50 feet, dungeon level 1

  • HP: 8/12

  • Status: confused

  • First kill: grey mushroom patch

  • Immediate problem: several dogs already in view and closing

What Happened

Morwe came down the stairs, found a grey mushroom patch, and got sprayed with spores for the trouble. While confused, he still managed to kill it, but that small success led directly into a worse problem: several dogs were already in view, with little room to waste turns and no guarantee that the confusion would wear off before the situation tightened. In other words, the room had already begun the sort of conversation that usually ends with a retreat.

Character Notes

Morwe has the temperament of someone who would call a retreat "a measured repositioning" and then say it again while backing toward the stairs. For now, his accomplishments are modest: one dead fungus, 1 XP, and a live lesson in why early Angband characters should not linger when the room starts barking. He remains technically alive, which is the most flattering statistic available.
